About Larry
LARRY is complex, fearless and very funny portrait of a small town Canadian dude on a path of self discovery. He wants to prove that he’s worthy of a good woman, that he can quit drinkin’ and even take up “medertation”.
Bold, smart and outrageously funny, It turns out that LARRY’s journey into his own psyche uncovers more than he expected..
Cranbrook, British Columbia- Vancouver-based artist Candice Roberts’ daring and provocative gender-bending show LARRY will play at the Key City Theatre on January 27, 2023.
Picking up from the world premiere and rise of her 2019 international tour for LARRY, award-winning Canadian Clown Artist Candice Roberts once again assumes her alter ego in a comedic piece about one dude’s hilarious attempt at self-improvement. With rock and roll, a little life-couching, and a dip into his own psyche, Larry uncovers a little more femininity than anyone expected.
Roberts claims that Clown School Saved Her Life and uses LARRY to explore her experiences growing up as a female in rural BC, Canada in the 1980s. Culled lovingly from the male archetypes that surrounded her during her upbringing, Larry helps her compassionately examine the limitations of the gender binary, aging as a woman in society, and the complexities of being human.
