Key City Theatre Celebrates the Success of the Dreams Come True Raffle and Exciting Elevator Project Progress

Cranbrook, BC – February 17, 2025 – Key City Theatre is thrilled to announce the incredible success of the Dreams Come True Raffle, a pivotal fundraiser supporting the much-anticipated elevator installation at the theatre. This essential upgrade is officially underway, thanks to the overwhelming support from our community and the generosity of our long-time partners: the Department of Canadian Heritage, Columbia Basin Trust, and Regional District of East Kootenay (RDEK) Electoral Area C. While significant progress has been made, additional funding is required to fully realize this transformative project, and fundraising efforts will continue in the coming months.

The Dreams Come True Raffle captured the community’s imagination with its thrilling grand prize: a trip to Toronto, including round-trip airfare, a two-night hotel stay, and floor seats to see Taylor Swift live in concert last November. Additional prizes included $1,000 cash and a luxurious weekend getaway to Fairmont Hot Springs Resort. The overwhelming enthusiasm and participation from the community made this initiative a resounding success, bringing us closer to our vision of making Key City Theatre more accessible and inclusive for all.

“We are deeply grateful to everyone who purchased tickets, supported the raffle, and shared in our dream of enhancing the theatre experience for everyone,” said Galen Olstead, Executive Director of Key City Theatre. “This milestone wouldn’t have been possible without the invaluable contributions of our funding partners, whose commitment to the arts, community, and accessibility has been truly inspiring.”

Partner Support Reflects Shared Commitment to Accessibility

“Making Key City Theatre more accessible to everyone means that more people can experience the power of the arts,” said the Honourable Pascale St-Onge, Minister of Canadian Heritage. “Cultural spaces are platforms that showcase artists and gathering places where we come together. They inspire us and strengthen our communities. That’s why we’ve invested $200,000 to support the installation of an elevator at Key City Theatre, to improve access to the second floor, ensuring it remains inclusive and open to all, now and for generations to come.”

“This project is a testament to the incredible collaboration between the theatre, the community, and its partners,” said Rob Gay, RDEK Electoral Area C Director. “We are honoured to be a funding partner as we recognize the significant impact the elevator will have in making the arts more accessible for all.”

Building a More Accessible Future

The elevator installation is a cornerstone of Key City Theatre’s mission to create a welcoming and accessible space for the entire community. This project underscores our commitment to breaking down barriers and ensuring that everyone can enjoy the transformative power of live performances, workshops, and events. While substantial progress has been made, additional support is essential to complete the project.

In the coming months, Key City Theatre will activate final fundraising initiatives to bring this vital improvement to fruition. These efforts reflect our dedication to fostering a space where creativity and inclusion thrive, ensuring that the theatre continues to be a vibrant hub for connection and inspiration.

Key City Theatre extends heartfelt thanks to the Department of Canadian Heritage, Columbia Basin Trust, and RDEK Electoral Area C for their generous support in making this project a reality. Their contributions, combined with the community’s enthusiasm for the Dreams Come True Raffle, have brought us one step closer to realizing this vital improvement.
